What London Buildings Ask of an Assessor

London's stock is the hardest in the country to assess well: Victorian and Edwardian houses converted to flats with escape routes that were never designed; inter-war mansion blocks with original doors; post-war estates with cladding and compartmentation questions; and new builds whose stay-put strategies rest on construction nobody has checked since handover. A Level 3 assessor with a checklist and a Level 6 assessor with judgement will write very different reports about the same building. In London, that difference is the whole job.

Boroughs, Licensing and the Fire Brigade

Several boroughs run additional or selective licensing schemes that require a fire risk assessment they will accept. London Fire Brigade's own guidance on blocks of flats is what we assess against. Our reports are written to be read by a borough officer and a fire safety inspector, not only by you.
